Tao Venetian Beach Club, Checking out the famous vegas sign

So after a fun night at Light with Laid Back Luke with the German girl Alex who arrived minutes before we were leaving, but was still up for coming out, she wakes up and is keen to do a pool party with her free day. She was also considering the Grand Canyon but its already 11am so too late to go considering it takes around four hours to drive there! So I’m not pre registered on any lists as wasn’t expecting to go to any and message my contact Pete to see what options there are, but pool party lists shut by 9pm the night before. The only one available is the list for Mirage hotel -Bare so we try out that one first. She has the car so it’s easy to just head down there and car parks are free too. Like a mini vegas road trip.

Grabbing London Alastair too as he is keen to hit the pool and is good fun to hang out with we all head off getting there about 1pm just before the list shuts. When we arrive it’s a tiny pool with no where to sit unless pay for loungers, which is usually the case, but since this is so small you notice it more. It’s a very chilled vibe and not like the other pool parties with most people sunbathing. The people there are also much older and all topless, which I think is what this pool party is known for and why called “Bare”… You are not allowed to take any photos inside, so it is quite strict.

So Alex being really keen to see the Venetian hotel we decided to try that. As she signed up to Tao (the Venetian pool party) for a different day through no cover night clubs guest list , but it mentions no date we decide to try our luck with getting in, as worst case scenario we can get back into Bare as have the stamp. It’s at least cool for us all the check out the Mirage hotel a bit as its one of the more brighter and relaxing casinos with waterfalls and open windows in it rather than being all dark and gloomy. Although not my favourite with the tiny dolphin and tiger zoo they have!

So getting into the Venetian is super easy with the guy not even questioning the sign up message we have and not worried it has no date. Walking through into the main hotel pools they have about 4 to choose from all pretty nice with a central bar area you can also get food from, although later we miss out on the nice Wolfgang Puck menu it has, by not knowing food stops at 3pm so end up having to get the take away Wolfgang Puck instead which is bland and tasteless so all surprised Mr Puck would even link his name to it!

Deciding to get some cheaper drinks before going into Tao which sounds very loud and pumping, we chill outside around the main pool for an hour drinking some peach iced tea which isn’t the nicest but seems to have a kick. It’s super hot and the big pool is so refreshingly cold. It is such a nice surrounding to be in, totally giving you a feel of italy with the Palazzo big clock in the background and the Venetian hotel all covered in gold shining off the sun. By the time we get into Tao it is really busy and everyone is in the pool splashing away or hanging around their cabanas they gave paid fortunes for.

The music is good and the atmosphere fun chatting to a mix of people, a group from Hawaii who keep sharing their drinks. But Tao is small (compared to others like wet republic) so when people splash you end up soaked and half the pool is in the shade so it actually gets bit chilly when wet as bit windy. We stay there for an hour or so and amuse ourselves taking pictures in the pool as Kat has one of the new Samsung phones that is waterproof so can totally get it wet, which surprises a few people nearby to us seeing Kat going into the pool with her phone lol. We head out for more drinks at the main bar since they are cheaper and decide to just chill by here rest of the day getting last of the sun and warming up as it is nearly about to shut anyway. Great spot for people watching and there is a cool guy with a mad Mohican (not real I don’t think) walking around. Sure I’ve seen him at other pool parties or around the casino.

From here Alex wants to check out the famous “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign and since she has the car is cool to make the most of it. We get to see it as the sun is setting so looks nice with the backdrop of the airport too and it is busy with people queing for their picture, but not crazy with just a big hen group in front of us and a guy hogging it with his tripod for a bit. It’s quite fun getting the classic pictures.

After there we drive along the strip to see some of the hotels parking in Aria so we walk along to Cosmo and the Bellagio seeing the fountain and checking out the botanical garden, which is all about underwater and fish vs butterfly’s when I saw it two years ago. Cool to see with flower clams and sea horses and a walk through area with tropical fish – all ones I have seen recently in Fiji.

I mention about the volcano show and mistakingly thinking its at the Treaser Island hotel (as later remember it’s at the Mirage!) we head there, which actually takes far too long as also walk through Caesars since both Alex or Alastair hadn’t seen the famous sky and cloud ceiling walk way. So by the time we finish up we are knackered and no energy to walk the 40mins back to Aria so lazily grab a $5 uber to the car park. Life without uber in vegas would be so hard haha.

So by the time we arrive back it is really late and there isn’t much going on at the hostel with Chris the guy from Bath working there taking everyone out to a bar locally called Dinos lounge  but first go to grab some food from a nearby fast food typecVenezuelan restaurant that is cool to try something new although not so keen on the bread they use – called an Arepa bread filled with shredded beef which was tasty.

So Dino lounge a traditional downtown dive bar it actually isn’t too bad. It seems to have a lot of history about it with lots of old photos and pictures on the wall so reckon it’s seen a few things in its lifetime. And it is opposite the little white wedding chapel where Britney spears got married which is cool. So definitely amusing for a night as feeling tired from the previous few nights, so nice to actually not do too much. So just play a few games of pool and people watch some of the crazy locals like an older 70 year old lady in a semi witch outfit trying to take home some young French guys who are also staying at the hostel. The end of the night is Alex singing Karoak and with people singing all night and generally being pretty bad, she is definitely the best killing it and the whole bar is dancing around and getting involved. She probably should have sung more all night as a great voice.

Back at the hostel there are a few people up and about, but as London Ali and I are meant to be renting a car for the Grand Canyon early in the morning along with poland Kamil and the Brazilian guy in our dorm, we want to be up early so decide to call it a night trying to be in bed before 2am at least. Although not feeling very organised and not even sure where we rent a car from! Sadly Kat has to leave as only a flyby visit.
