Hike up Nacula Island for birds eye view of Blue Lagoon and crab spotting

So today is last day at the lovely lagoon and wake up early as just been having early nights. Was party night last night and played sime games, did limbo and drunk kava a lot of the night. Also got chatting to a nice Californian young couple. Interesting to chat to especially as he was a big fan of London too! But no one here are bug drinkers so after a bottle of wine that Matt kindly bought and a beer it was off to bed.

So to make the most of the last day going to do the hike. Feed up on healthy muesli and yogurt and fruit Im all set to go. Told yo head to the back of the village and follow the track When i get there it’s hard to see the track. So I go along what most looks like a path soon realising its the wrong way when I find a load of pigs in crates. Turning back I turn off again where it looks like a path carries on and this is through bush and pass hundreds of crab holes and as I walk along it can hear all the crab scurrying away hiding. It is quite freaky as they make a lot of rustling sounds.

Amused by the crabs I stop for a bit o be totally silent and watch the crabs come out of their holes, managing to even get a few pictures of them with their weird goggling eyes. Not much of a fan of crabs as they remind me of spiders and these one are all very big- some with hairy legs too. The path carries on for ages with all the holes and I have to walk over logs covering muddy patches of land and where some puddles are. Eventually after about 45mins I get to a beach, which isn’t my intended destination, but coll none the less to see. The tide is out so not as pretty as i might be usually and grey skies looming, its not a beach I stay at for long as need to use the time before the boat comes to still get up to the peak.

Walking back trying to rush a bit I eventually get back to the start and see a guy who points me in the right direction. The path is covered by trees so no wonder missed it, but it is lined with white rocks so as I carry on the route can make sure i don’t do any wrong turns again. Walking through sugar canes mostly and long grass it isn’t the nicest of walks, but as I get higher up and start seeing the views it is nice. A half way point is a nice rock where you can see the village below and the different blue colours of the lagoon, understanding why it is called blue lagoon. You can also from the the other side the beach where I ended up wrongly.

The rest of the walk is Ok, hot in the sun and uphill so need a few breaks, but walk it in about 15mins. I catch up with another couple at the top, who like me are pretty impressed with the views as you can see some of he other islands and see just how green it is as an island. Heading back quickly so have time to shower before the boat, I over take the couple going down as they definately are not wearing the right footwear as just have flipflops so need to go down the rocks pretty slowly.  Nice and easy going down  – a little bit of strain on my knee that has been agitated by the mount doom climb in NZ. So including the wrong turns a nice little 3 hours walk to start off the day making you feel healthy. Amd back in plenty of time to chill out by the pool and have a beer before getting ready for the boat to Korouvo.  Meant to depart at 1pm the boats are always late and we don’t leave until at least 2pm  so not sure why they just don’t change the times to when they actually do leave.
