All feeling slightly fuzzy from our Friday night out, it’s great to wake up to blue skies and warm sunshine, so can even put shorts on.
Via a cute little bakery for me and the boys via Ferg Burger bakery (the most famous place in town!) we do the touristy things today at the Skyline.
So the Gondola’s with two luge tickets (as there are two tracks) cost $47 (£26.50), so expensive, but expected as it’s main thing to do. The 2nd luge though is good value only an extra $2 vs $12 buying when your there.
Impressed by the gondola going up as amazing to see the views as they really are spectacular with the bright blue lake, mountains and ariel views of the town. Plus it is fun going up them too, as you can see under you the steep cliff , the walking routes up the up and through the big rocks and the depth of the bungy that is on the side of the mountain sometimes even catching someone jump as you pass.
At the top the viewing platform is nicely done for 360views with a cute cafe area and can see for ages with the clear blue sky. There are several hanggliders floating down while there, which looks a cool sport and boats coming in/out of the main lake.
We head round to the tracks and you need to get on another chair lift to reach those, but only a short 5min journey. The first time I had to jump off my bag got caught with my silly lock from Vietnam and the lady at top was like quick quick off haha, so 2nd time round more prepared. You can carry small backpack on the luge and so no need for a locker.
The first time round they show you how to use them, which are really easy just pulling back the handle a little to start and a lot to break. Out of the two tracks the 2nd one is much faster and has fun more up and down slopes, but both great fun. The boys go ahead and are racing each other, I’m just behind not too much.
After the luge track racing we head down and go to the outside 18hole mini golf as the sun is so warm and nice to be outside. It’s $14 (£7), but takes a good hour or so so is good value and fun with the boys. I manage to get a hole in one and was in the lead for couple rounds as half way it was all close, but I had a few shocker last rounds and Ross just managed to consistently get them in only 2 or 3 shots so was the final winner. They are both so competitive it’s amusing to watch, especially when Ross gets all the lucky shots when Tahu play’s the similar shots.
After mini golf the boys are keen to check out the local rugby team play (both sport mad lol) and we head there for bit, which is interesting. We also go via Hells pizza, which is a kiwi place and I get the spicyist pizza ever called Wrath.
We then have a bit of a drive out to check out area, picking up some beers and heading to a lake to sit by. That is beautiful and so calming, apart from the mossies that attack when too close to the water edge. One guy braves the lake with his dog swimming, but it feels icy with just my hand in it. We stay there for hour before heading back to catch rest of the rugby and go back and change for the night out, with all of us crashing out for couple hours reviving ourselves for later.
We head out to Spreights Ale House for dinner and the super league rugby and it’s a really cosy bar and restaurant. Going for local lamb, I get a lamb salad ($15) thats nice although mint sauce or dressing would have made it. Enjoying a couple of wines in there during the game which is 80mins and then heading onto Irish Bar for another and final super league game. This place has live music on in background and it is quite lively with people dancing. All a little tired from Friday and my flight Thursday, we are more just chilling watching the sport. But after tge game we leave there and head back to Winnies, which is lively and people dancing everwhere. We get chatting to a san diego guy who is interesting and then all of us head to tge casino, but they only accept nz driving licences or a passport that I dont have on me so cant get in. So Ross and I leave Tahu to play the roulette and he manages to come back $100 up so he is happy and that made the end of his night.
