Managing to get up ok for the bus to Timaru, despite only having few hours sleep, the bus takes about 2 hours and I mainly sleep and update my blog. The bus is packed with students going to Dunedin. Not too much on the road to see apart from the occasional river.
At Timaru, Tahu from Bali meets me as planned and it’s fab to see him after so many months. We grab some food before hitting the road and estimated to take about 4 hours so not too bad. I have my speaker so can listen to tunes too.
The drive is very scenic with mountains pretty much all the way. We stop off a few times and the most impressive stop is Kawarau River which actually we end up driving along for quite awhile. It is a river used for lord of the rings apparently and it is so eye catching as a gorgeous bright turquoise colour. You can whiye watwr raft from it and do a jrt boat, so Ill try that when I return. There are little old mine huts along the river, which are also cool to see.
We also pass AJ Hacket first bungy a bridge by Kawarau river, which looks high and still don’t think I can do. Time will tell.
It’s a very pleasant drive along the winding roads and impressed so far. When we get into Queenstown, we pick up Tahu’s friend Ross who is away for tge weekend trip too. We pick up at the airport as he went for a long walk, but it started rain so easier to get a lift back.
It takes us ages to find somewhere to park, eventually finding the library where can park for a week for $12 same price some of the others wanted for 10hours. It’s only a tiny town so easy to find way round.
We check into our hostel Base and have the room to ourselves for most of the day, so get changed and head out to see what the town has instore!
