Checking out Freo

Going out of Perth today to visit the next town up Freemantle with Bex as she has the day off and offered to show me about which is cool. First impressions of Freemantle are cute town with good selection of restaurants along the front and cool old Orleans style looking bars couple of streets back. It’s quieter than usual I think as it’s Monday with the markets shut and their main department store randomly only open Thurs-Sunday which would never happen back home.

We do bit of touristy stuff visiting the Round House which is small so quick. But basically was a prison so it shows the cells and punishment they had at the time all quite strict, for even things like breaking the curfew or being a sick lunatic lol. It’s cool to see maps of how it was back then too.

As we can’t do much shopping we head to Little Creatures for a drink as it is also a brewery as well as being known for being lively. It’s a cool place with urban vibe, reminds me of Shoreditch with the brewery tanks in the background. Bex says the food isnt great so we decide to try a beach further up. As we are leaving we notice there are a load of little creature bikes so expecting them to be expensive to rent, we are surprised when they are free. Just need to give ID and credut card to the whacky man serving, who is actually quite entertaining at the same time and we are off!! Ready to go…

Head along to South Beach for lunch to the Pickled Fig which is nice food and good value for mine as I ordered the starter of loaded potatoe skins and it is was nearly same size as Bex’s main meal but hers being $10 more! We need to be quick back to make the car parking ticket so thankfully we got the bikes, as had planned to walk and would never have made it in time as just had 2mins to go using bikes. So before we leave freo I have to get an icecream as they look amazing and ebd up with one of the biggest ever had before with a scoop of yogurt abd scoop lemon. Super nice for our car journey to Leighton Beach our final stop and another pure white sandy beach. The weather isn’t as good today, but still hot enough to swim and lay out for a bit. Overall it’s is a good way to end the Freo trip, but might try and go back on a weekend day as also saw there were sunset markets.
