Arriving in Taupo early afternoon it gives us time to explore the town, which isn’t too big but one of the bigger places we have been too so far. Staying in Base we are very central to everything and even manage to get a room with a view of the huge lake as get a balcony (only 2 with balconies in the hostel!) plus a few extras like tea and coffee, TV, iron and straighteners not a common thing in hostels. Sharing a room again with Ida,
Harry and Alex it’s a super cool room and very spacious.
The hostel is opposite the park, so Harry and Alex head there to play football with a few others, while Ida and I go for a walk around town to check it out and at the end go to one of the bars on the lake front for a cider to take in the view. The lake is apparently the size of Singapore, which puts it in perspective as looks more like the sea. Managing to get some sun, we sit out for over an hour before we head to the supermarket as going to have carrots, dips and wine in the room before we head to Elements bar around 11ish as it’s Saturday night and a busy night.
Our pre drinks are fun and end being in our room since we have the biggest room as at first went to another room – Gin from Holland, Billy and Charlotte from England. A few others from the bus join including 2 swedish girls and Chris from England. End up playing a few card games like pyramid and horse racing, which gets everyone in a good mood for going out and their is a good group out. The bar is open late and is packed out with everyone dancing or sitting outside on the terrace.
