Last day in Paihia, not lucky with the weather waking up to rain. So not a great day to do my originally planned coastal walk to 0pau, plus it takes 2 hours one way to get there so one to save for another time since the kiwi bus leaves at 2.30pm so would be rushed. Unless I had got up at sunrise, which was never going to happen since along with Scott and his friend Dan went to more drinks at Mike the owner of Tito Bar’s house right next door to Mousetrap so at least it made it a fairly reasonable and cheap night. Just a little too late to wake up early and do walking. However after the last few days of doing such big walks, it is actually nice to rest, so use some of the time I have free to catch-up on the blog using a cute little internet place called BOOTS OFF.
So still wanting to do a small bit of walking, I try a route Devon Scott gave me to get nice views over Paihai by walking along SCHOOL ROAD. A lot of the houses in town are up in the hills so have great sea view of the bays, so this road is the same. It’s pretty uphill and quite hard work with my aching leg, so I only go up to where the roads end, which I don’t think was the right way anyway. With no energy to look for the right way and the rain, I just make the most of the view I have a plot of land for sale where you get a cool panoramic view.
So rest of the day is spent on the bus going back to Auckland with quite a small group of only 15 or so – a contrast to the way there. Arriving to Auckland around 6ish and staying in Nomads again, as it’s closest to the bus pick up all the kiwi people are put in rooms togrthere. In my room are nice and friendly, all going out for a few beers so good way to meet the group I’ll be travelling with. So a swedish girl called Ide, 2 welsh guys Alex and Harry and Austrian guy Christoph. We head to the sports bar, Nomads Camel Bar and then Nandos for some food, so a not bad night and not too late for the 8.45am bus in the morning. Much needed sleep after the bay of islands.
