After a relaxing day chilling at Tropic Daze, by the time get back to Gilligan’s its time to get ready for the Ultimate Party Bus, which starts at 6.30pm. Heading there with the girls from my dorm Emma P (who is moving to Melbourne), Charlotte S (who is heading to NZ next) and Sarah P (who has just come back from NZ and heading up the coast). The guy who runs the bus is a little bit crazy and likes to call me sweetness slugger, but is amusing enough and think to do this job you need to be a bit mad, as he said he hasn’t had a Saturday night off for 17 years! Whether we believe him or not that’s another thing haha.
With food included, which is just bangers and mash, the night starts off in Gillingan’s with a few ice breakers to get to know everyone and there is an 18th (eeek!) and 21st birthday in the group, with the girl who is 18 bringing along her mum and dad. They seem to actually be getting into it more than her, especially the mum who seems to be loving life right now. The first ice breaker, is a game where a few people are selected with a chance to win a skydive. The girls have to move a piece of bubble gum from the shoes to the mouth of their partnered guy the quickest and then pass the gum to them for them to blow a bubble first. It is quite funny to watch, as obviously some awkward moments as they have to pass through belts.
The bus itself is a double decker and all sitting at the top it’s a fun vibe as we do a few laps of Cairns town so good way to check out the place. The first stop we go to is bar called The Jack an outside bar usually also well known for it’s live music and is just around the corner from Gilligans. We stay there for our free drink, a couple of wines and another game. The game this time being the first to blow up a condom (they obviously ran out of balloons haha) by using a foot pump and having to bounce on the knee of their partnered guy. It’s great to see mum and dad getting involved in this one.
The next stop is Lyquid Club, where it is more of a club feeling as dark inside and so only being being about 9pm feels slightly early for this place. Again we get a free drink and also get dominoes pizza so a nice touch to help line the stomach. Everyone here is mainly on the dance floor and the game here is 4 pairs of couples having to do a dance off to different music types, so less interesting and crazy as the previous games. The music here is really good and slightly more on the house side, which works for me.
After about an hour at Lyquid, we leave back on the bus for the Sanctum and each time back on the bus it is getting livelier with us girls this time dancing downstairs as we travel about. The Sanctum is quite nice and good as it has a balcony area so isn’t as dark ad closed in as the previous place. Good place to chat to more of the locals and everyone is in a good mood being Saturday night dancing away.
Last stop is Gillingan’s and the Attic and here us girls all head to the live music area first, as the music is better. It is cheap drink as we have a couple of $20 match vouchers so buy 1 get 1 free essentially. It’s another night for reunions as at the bar its cool to bump into Alex and Nicole the Swedish girls from Aquarious in Byron, who I thought had moved to surfers so is a really nice surprise to catch up with them and looking gorgeous as ever. Also see Quincy from Byron around too plus an english guys called Ben who was on Magnectic Island at the Koala park. Another good night and we all end up getting home about 5am, when it shuts all chatting away in the dorm. As it’s a chilled room, none minds as it is just us 3 girls, Christian, Andy and an ozzie guys who was on a diving trip in the room and everyone away anyway. Sarah does give us a bit of a scare at one point, as falls off the ladder while getting into her bunk, but luckily ok as she went down with a massive thump and if anyone wasn’t awake they are now!
