Exploring Harrington

So after Hunter Valley we head back to where Neolie lives, which is about 2 hours away and a nice journey back with Darcy and Gemma being really good considering they have been in the car all day. So when we are back Neolie gives me a quick tour of her town Harrington and it’s super cute with local bowling center, pub and caravan park as Neolie tells me that is used a lot as a holiday destination, as there are a few beaches here all really gorgeous golden sands and some merge into the river, which is separated by rocks and creates lots of different colours in the sunlight.

Neolie has grown up here, so knows all the history of it and explains how after storms the sand on the beaches can disappear as it did one year and was left with just the rocks. Now the sand has built back up a lot and so the beaches are big and wide. Neolies family also has played a big part in the town, which is small with a population of about 2k and so it’s fab to see her dads memorial plaque too.

In the evening, they put on a bbq which is fab to meet the family, including her brothers 2 kids Tallow and Bronte who are very cute too so it’s quite fun hanging out in their pool doing water fights and playing ball. The house is on the back of a golf course and Darcy enjoys showing me some of the crazy birds they have outsude their gate which swoop at you if you get too close as they are protecting eggs and it’s a bit scary as have pretty sharp beaks lol. The birds don’t seem to deter Jess the dog or their fluffy rabbit hopping about. The bbq isn’t too late, but as the kids are off they can stay up later and are enjoying entertaining us with singing and ballirina dancing and really good already at 8 – full of confidence so can see the girls doing well in singing and dancing. Maybe they will even form a group!

In the morning it’s a sunny day, so head to the beach as Gemma wants to show me her surfing skills and Neolie wants to show me her lovely beach. We go via one of Darcys friends who was bitten on the face by a rottweiller and has 54 stitches, to give a present and see how he is. He is very lucky the injuries were not more serious.

So we head to Crowdy Head beach first via the lighthouse,  which sadly is well known as a suicide spot as is high on a cliff and in remembrance for them there are various planks with the names of who died her (some accidental fallings aswell as suicides). The surf club here is also a big part of Neolies family and her dad and brother and her being the only female are lifetime members due to their contribution to the club, which is so cool to see. Adam her brother even lives in an annex flat at the end of it as looks after the class club, so pretty cool for them to live actually ontop of the beach. Great for the kids who will be pro surfers anytime soon ☺. The kids all surf for about half hour until Darcy gets stung by a Blue Bottle Jellyfish which just needs to be run under hot water however still scary for him aswell as little Tallow who caught the end of it on her leg. It does I guess help get them out of the sea as otherwise Neolie thinks they still would be there at midnight. Luckily quickly all the kids are ok and we head on our way to the waterfalls.
