Private Island Snorkelling and a broken boat

The trip includes snorkelling on an island called Kelor and a stop off for swimming. The best spot is meant to be snorkelling around komodo island as you get mantay rays and sharks, but think thats mainly for divers. The 2 places we stop off at are pretty quiet but gorgeous water and white sand. The fish we see is pretty impressive so colourful with rainbow coloured, angel fish and some long grey trigger fish that I thought was an eel so slightly freaked me out. We stay out for about hour and get the last of the sun as not expecting a sunset like the previous night which was amazing.

We are due back about 4pm but the boat is still slow as just one engine they say about 5pm instead. However half way there the boat decides to completely die which is always a bit worrying. The older of the 2 boys driving manages to fix it and we are back on track. That is until we notice the steering has gone and the driver chuck half of the wheel which broke into sea and acts like its a usual thing to happen. When it happens again the boy starts to look worried and then a few moments after the engine dies and this time we are actually stuck. There is an Indonesian lady on the boat who can chat to.them a bit even though its a different Indonesian language and they say they are calling a boat to tug us in. I guess this is a good example of you get what you pay for and luckily it’s not sinking as they are known to or catch on fire as another boat nearby is on fire! Holly and I are super pleased when the rescue boat arrives as we notice they are also chucking water out of the boat so maybe there is a leak. Its quite funny having to be towed and think the boys driving are embarrassed but in the end no harm done and just the Flores way.

Once on dry land we head to a bar called Tree Top for food and a sunset view and its an ok place – pricy for western food but we all get noodles which is cheap and like phad thai noodles really thick. The sunset is quite cloudy and just before we aim to head back up the hill it pours with rain and have to hideout a bit longer there making everyone pretty tired. We decide to get back to shower and then head to paradise bar as they have live music and it has bit of a vibe going on. I even bump into someone called Martin from Brighton who was in gili and we kept being in same places.
