So sad times with it being the end of the North island, as it has flown by, but excited for the south. First stop ABEL TASMAN via Picton and Nelson on the FERRY. The ferry is meant to be one of the most scenic ferry rides and it lives up to it’s reputation as it goes through the MABOUROUGH SOUNDS at the end. Most of the ferry is spent sleeping as had to leave so early or trying to catch-up on admin jobs. Trying to see the views from the top deck too, it is very beautiful and calming as we glide past a lot of the islands.
Picton seems quite cute too, not with too much there, but a nice place for the views of the sea and time to chill I would say. We stop at aplace called RICHMOND that has some good shops, so everyone on the bus seems to be buying thing. On route to Abel Tasman it is a long journey, but scenic arriving there just in time for a nice sunset by the nearby beach. Staying at the KAITERORA LODGE it’s not one of my favourite hostels, as the kitchen not great having to hire your own cutlery and the hobs not working well, plus very strict with the rules doing room checks and bar shutting very early so leaving not much to do there as there are no nearby things. Only thing is the beach, but it is very cold so decide to just drink in the room as can’t go to the bar. In our room there is Swedish Ida, Welsh Harry and Alex plus UK Billy and Holland Gin. The staff aren’t very friendly either to us all and treat us more like school kids, so quite frustrating.
We still all have a fun night and hang out also with the two Swedish girls we were with on the crossing and are sweet. Up early at 7am for the Kayaking, try not to go to bed too late.
