Settling into Magnectic Island and Koala Bungalow Bay

So it takes pretty much a full day to get to the island with a bus at 9.45am and then a ferry at 3 from Townsville. The ferry is quick only 20mins and it’s a nice view arriving into Magnetic Bays Nelly Bay the main ferry port. It’s easy to get to the hostel as they have good sunbuses between the 5 main stops on the island as it is a small island. It’s nice travelling with Chloe all the way from Airlie as it is a whole days travelling.

Staying at Koala Bungalow Bayit’s a super nice hostel set in a rainforest with cabins and is $28 a night. Cabins aren’t bad although I do have to move rooms once and the 2nd cabin doesn’t have central plugs or a bathroom door that shuts like the first did, but Im in with Chloe and some Swedish who are nice sp makes the room vibe good. One of the swedish lads Emil says he is keen to share a 4×4 with us as that’s the easiest way to get round the island. Especially as the Koala bungalow are the other end of the island to base which is the only lively bar on the island.

We arrive at the hostel about 4ish so just chill around the bar enjoying the forest. They seem to try hard to have some sort of entertainment each night from bingo to boozy pictionary. It’s so super chilled here and the trees are full of colourful cockertoos.

For the evening we decide to head out to base jumping on the last bus to town and knowing we will need a taxi, but can share with the 3 other English girls that are here Semara, Becky and Georga who with both met on Frasers who arw all sweet girls, but there are a few things Chloe and Georga need to chat about from Frasers to clear the air, which they do at Base so all good. Base is good fun and see a lot of the whitsunday people so get chatting to them, including the 2 german guys and Tom the Austrian guy who we hung out with on the boat. By the end of the night everyone is dancing on the tables as Base are quite good at getting the party started especially as they have happy hour most of the night, so wine is only $15 a bottle. It ends at 12pm so we manage to get a cab easily and aren’t too late really. As I’m tired from Airlie, I crash, but Chloe stays up with a few others drinking outside the room and getting bitten alive as it is a rainforest so they are everywhere.
