Exploring Christchurch a City of Art and Change

So enjoying having my own room it’s a relaxing morning catching up with home and my blog as up early as didn’t have a late night. The room is super comfy and plug socket near the bed so got everything need to organise pics and posts.

Heading out about 11am I just walk the city seeing the vibe and what’s about. I walk towards the airport bus stop, so at least know where that is for tomorrow and time. Near the bus interchange is where the restart mall is with all the crates used after the earthquake back in 2011. The choice of shops isn’t great, but then I’m not really shopping as need less stuff rather than more. The shops are also expensive brand shops. But cool to see and there is a food area too that has a nice mix of stuff. The QUAKE CITY musuem is right by here, but decide to do that on way back depending on cash at time as it’s not the cheapest at $20 (£10) when your on a budget. So there is a lot of building work this way, but not much else walking about.

I do most of the city along up by the high street and to CATHEDRAL SQUARE following the city tram route. Impressions are it is definitely a city of art with so many building with painted muriels on them, so I try and find as many as I can and do a good job I think. Also finding a few sculptures like the queens corgis that I like.

Getting to Cathedral Square it’s sad to see it still toppled as it had been a few years and you would have hoped for it to have been fixed, however it does make a more interesting viewing and reminder of the earthquake. There are pictures of what it was like to compare against and with building work all around you are in hope that it will come back to its former glory!

Walking along the road to Worcester Boulevard there is more evidence of the influence of art in the city with an art musuem and cool bar opposite it called Fiddlesticks thats looks nice, especially in the sun.
